Description of Services
RVC’s Refugee and Immigrant Services Project’s Youth Program targets refugee and immigrant youth who attend Guilford High School, where the Rockford School District’s bi-lingual program is housed. During the school year, the program will meet at Guilford after school for two hours twice weekly; at this time, the program tutors will provide individualized tutoring in specific problem areas identified by the school’s bi-lingual staff or other teachers with whom the tutors consult.
During the summer, youth may attend special programming conducted by the Rockford School District; if most program youth are attending summer school, WIA program staff will assist at the school. After the summer school program ends, WIA youth will meet for three hours once weekly at the Workforce Connection to receive basic skills remediation/enhancement tutoring and work readiness/career exploration activities. Youth may participate in job shadowing activities, internships, and subsidized or unsubsidized work experiences (school year and summer). Counseling/mentoring activities will be provided on an on-going basis.
