Young Adults Gain Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Navigating our Public Transportation System

Part of the Elevate Program is to ensure we are equipping young adults with the skills needed now and in the future. One piece of this is learning about public transit and how to get around using the systems in place.

“Transportation is one of the biggest barriers for our young adults. Being able to navigate the public transportation system will allow them to get to/from class and work and gain knowledge, skills and experience to help with their career goals.” stated Elevate Program Manager, Karyn McDonald.

The Workforce Connection Staff shared this information recently in a very hands-on and engaging way with YouthBuild trainees in a Public Transit workshop. During this workshop, the trainees learned all about the public transit system, including how to navigate public transportation by catching a bus from the downtown transit station to the closest stop to our WIOA Partner’s Comprehensive Community Solutions (CCS) YouthBuild facility.

Once back at YouthBuild, staff helped them learn all about routes and how to navigate maps and the RMTD App. The trainees and staff were then able to walk to the nearest bus stop to catch another bus back to the transit station and take a tour of the station.
