Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua? We have a great opportunity for a Facility Operator. Under the direction of the Field Supervisor, this role is responsible for performing all tasks related to customer service and the installation, operation, and maintenance of all water and wastewater treatment facilities located in Des Plaines region.
Operate and maintain the facilities and equipment related to the wastewater treatment lagoons, lift stations, collection systems, and spray irrigation consisting of fixed sprinklers with pop-up heads for land application of wastewater effluent
Operate and maintain the facilities and equipment related to the water treatment plant, well facilities, pumping and storage facilities as needed.
Operate and maintain the vehicles and equipment used in the water and wastewater facilities.
Perform and record inspections, tests, and data on the systems’ and facilities’ operations.
Prepare reports required by the Company, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Commerce Commission, or other jurisdictional entities.
Collect, analyze, and record water and wastewater samples for regulatory compliance and process control monitoring for proper operation of the systems.
Respond to customer service, water distribution and/or collection system work orders.
Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.
Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s Operator’s License.
Based on our company’s Career Progression and your current licenses, you can be hired into one of the following titles/ levels:
FO Trainee – Will be required to get either a Class C water or Class 3 waste water license within 18 months of employment.
FO I –Minimum license requirement of Class C water or Class 3 waste water.
FO II Must meet dual licensing requirements in above matrix of at least a Class C water and Class 3 waste water.
FO III –Must meet dual licensing requirements of a FO II. Minimum license requirement of Class B water and Class 2 waste water.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to readily read, understand and accurately follow operating instructions both written and verbal
Possess the mathematical ability to perform calculations to determine various ratios, dosages, and volumetric calculations that are required for the operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plants and Water System.
Computer literate in computer database and ability to operate plant processes through computer controlled equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and /or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions
Must be able to lift and move equipment in excess of 50lbs and the ability to work in confined spaces. Lift test will be required at part of employment for this position.
Working condition include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents.
Company vehicle is provided for business purposes only.
This position participates in a weekly on-call rotating schedule every 3 weeks. The on-call schedule requires the candidate to be available nights and weekends to adequately staff a 24 hour/7-day operation.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements
Essential Utilities and its subsidiaries, including Aqua, Delta, and Peoples Natural Gas, requires new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, where allowable under the law. To satisfy this requirement, new hires who received the one shot regimen of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine must receive the one dose shot prior to their first day of employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided on your first day of employment. For the two shot regimen of either Pfizer or Moderna, a new hire must have received at least one dose of the vaccine before their first day of employment. Proof of the second dose date must be received within the recommended timeline based on the manufacturer’s vaccine received. For example, for Moderna as soon as the 28 day period has elapsed and for Pfizer as soon as the 21 day period has elapsed. Failure to provide proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will result in the termination of your employment with Essential Utilities including its subsidiaries Aqua, Delta and Peoples Natural Gas.
If you are unable to be fully vaccinated due to a medical or religious exemption, you will be required to apply for an exemption on your first day of employment with Essential Utilities. As part of the process, you will be required to provide information and/or documentation to Human Resources about the reason(s) you cannot be vaccinated. If your request for an exemption is not approved, then your employment may be terminated.
