Construction Crew Foreman

The City of Freeport is looking for a Construction Crew Lead Worker. This position is under the
direction of the Utility Superintendent and the Construction Crew Foreman and supervises and
participates in the operations, inspection, maintenance and repairs of the Water Distribution and
Sewer Collection System and ancillary systems. Performs the duties of the Construction Crew
Foreman in his/her absence. This position is subject to 24-hour availability, 7-days per week
including weekends and holiday for emergency call in for weather, operational, or system problems.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising, and participating in construction and
maintenance projects for underground piping (water/sanitary/storm sewer mains), Water Service
and Sewer Lateral lines to/from homes, Water Plants and the Wastewater Treatment Plant;
manages sewer televising program, Service Line Replacement, Storm Water, Fire Hydrant Flushing
and Annual Maintenance, and Sanitary Sewer Cleaning or other programs as assigned; constructs
and maintains all components in the Water Distribution System or Sewer Collection System;
compiles, communicates, and performs JULIE locate requests; performs pipefitting, welding,
soldering, and other related plumbing tasks; performs the duties of a Crew Worker; responds to
citizen complaints and after hour service requests, and other duties as assigned.
The qualified candidate will possess a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years
of experience in Water Distribution System maintenance of which one year shall be as a Water &
Sewer Construction System Worker II, totaling two years of experience, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience may be acceptable; ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s
License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement within 90 days of starting the position; IEPA Class “D”
Distribution License and/or IEPA Sewer Collection System License within 1 year of starting the
position; considerable knowledge of Water Treatment and Distribution System and Wastewater
Treatment Plant and Sewer collection system methods and techniques, ability to lead and instruct
Water & Sewer System Workers, etc.

The starting salary for this position is $22.64 per hour with an excellent benefit package that
