The City of Freeport, IL is looking for a full-time Administrative Assistant for our Community and Economic Development department. This position is responsible for general administrative/clerical duties, including front desk reception, as well as other specialized tasks in support of the department’s projects and programs. This position also acts as the City Hall receptionist.

This position handles requests, complaints and inquiries regarding code enforcement, planning, zoning, and building regulations, licensing, permits, etc. and issues applications for variances, special use permits, and changes of zoning; researches records to answer questions, and provide information and referrals concerning services and projects: typically relating to code enforcement, building, and zoning regulations, licensing, permits, and other activities within the Building and Zoning Code; manages Commercial Contractor Licensing including notifying licensees for renewal, verifying documents received are complete and correct, insurance is current, and payment has been made, and maintains schedule of collection.

The qualified candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and two years of administrative support experience, as well as proficiency in MS Office Suite – Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must be a team player with excellent customer service skills, ability to multitask, be a fast learner and self-motivated.

The starting salary range for this hourly, non-exempt position is $18 to $20 per hour, DOQ, with an excellent benefit package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, plus an IMRF pension.
