Job Summary: The ED Intake Representative greets, directs, and assists patients and customers entering the Emergency Department through the emergency entrance. They will be able to recognize life threatening and urgent presentations of patients arriving ambulatory to the intake window and alert ED Clinical staff ASAP when neccessary.  They gather key elements including name, date of birth, chief complaint and patient’s physician to initiate the registration process in Meditech. The Intake Representative also performs a full registration of each patient, after they have been triaged and assigned a room.  They are responsible for going to each patient room and verifiying all information, scanning needed documents and collecting required data, which can vary depending on the type of visit.  Insurance is entered and run through a verificaiton system for eligiblity.  Knowledge of types of insurance for example; Medicare and Replacement plans, Medicaid and MCO plans and Commerical insurance, is needed and/or acquired on the job training. Other details entered include Guarantor and basic demographic information to allow FHN to correctly bill the patient.  The ED Intake Representative is alerted if there is a patient arriving by ambulance.  These patients need to be entered immediatley, to allow ED Clinical staff to expidite medical care. The ED is a very fast paced environment, which can result in stressful situations.  It’s important for the ED Intake Representative to be able to handle a large amount of work in a quick time frame.  Customer service and communication skills must be superior and reflect delivering excellence standards.

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with 2-5 years’ experience required. Licensure/Certification/Registration: EMT-B or Paramedic Certification and Licensure required.
