General Summary of Position
Performs Heat Treat inspections and documents findings on the in-process prints. Requires the
knowledge and understanding of inspection principles and procedures, inspection instruments and
their purposes, and inspection techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge of all appropriate equipment measuring devices, inspection procedures, and the ability to perform inspections and properly document results.
All applicable Heat Treat checks are performed for each production lot and properly documented.
Performs heat-treating inspections by obtaining random samples of completed lots. Inspects parts relative to blueprint specifications. Records and documents results and informs other departments of results subsequent to release of lots to next operation.
Makes sure discrepant product is tagged. Completes all re-inspections. Communicates with other
departments and or suppliers regarding any discrepancies.
Operates tensile machine, Rockwell hardness tester, tukon hardness tester, metallurgical cut-off
machines, metallurgical polishing equipment, metal grinding equipment, microscope, torque
wrenches, air guns, etc., in carrying out duties.
Assure compliance to ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 14001, and TS16949 requirements.
Maintains assigned daily logs of tests run on Rockwell hardness tester and microhardness tester,
and list of all micros made.
Aids in the tracking and solutions of customer complaints and IMI’s.
Accumulates information pertaining to sample status, rejected items, and issues written reports.
Ability to make basic interpretations of microstructures.
Performs grain flows on set ups, die changes, wire changes, and special parts per print
requirements.
Maintains, rotates and destroys all grain flows, micros and samples on the designated schedules.
Education, Skills & Abilities
HSD/GED or equivalent experience
Previous Quality experience in a Manufacturing environment, preferably metal industry
Knowledge in Heat Treat sample preparation and inspection procedures
Understands induction, case, and neutral hardening practicing
Advanced computer experience, data entry, excel spreadsheets, email communication
