Accountability:

Goodwill Industries is seeking an Adult Education Instructor. The instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to adults in a basic and secondary learning program to ensure their ability to complete a GED program. This position will work Monday through Friday 8am – 4:30pm with occasional nights/weekends (for events only).

 

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

Assesses learners’ prior knowledge, learning needs, and college and career readiness goals.
Sets learning goals and a course of study.
Adapts instruction based on formative and summative student assessment data.
Plans and delivers high-quality, evidence-based instruction.
Designs learner-centered instruction and classroom environments.
Designs standards-based instructional units and lesson plans.
Uses instructional techniques that are effective with adult learners.
Designs instruction to build learners’ technology and digital media literacy skills.
Designs instruction to build learners’ higher-order thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Effectively communicates to motivate and engage learners in a clear and understandable way.
Communicates high expectations of learners and motivates them to persist to meet their goals.
Engages in active listening, dialogue and questioning to facilitate and support learning.
Models an understanding of diversity.
Possesses content area knowledge and teaching skills required for subjects and populations taught.
Creates and manages detailed case notes in database, ensuring all data is maintained in a timely manner.
Develops, implements, and monitors individual development plans by establishing appropriate goals and objectives.
Maintains participant confidentiality at all times.
Provides constant communications with Adult Education Program Manager regarding students’ needs and progress.
Provides post testing results and other reporting to Adult Education Program Manager.
Participates in professional development networks and learning communities.
Refines instructional practices through reflection on experience, evidence, and date.
Participates in and contributes to program improvement efforts.
Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Bachelor’s in Education and State of Illinois Teaching License is preferred.
Ability to teach year round.
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with barriers and understand and communicate with diverse groups.
Three-five years teaching experience, preferably in a GED or Pre-GED classroom.
The ability to motivate and assist individuals in learning.
Strong organizational skills required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills along with basic computer navigation and word processing skills essential.
