Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is seeking a full-time Department Manager. Department Managers are responsible for supporting all aspects of the retail operation while providing specific oversight of a specialized department.
Responsibilities
acting as an expert in their designated area, taking ownership for merchandising, production results, quality control, and overall operation of the area (specific departments include – Sales Floor, Back Room, and Wares Processing)
supporting goals for financial results, including sales growth and increased average sales
completing required reporting; supporting the inventory process
understanding all store functions (sales, donations, textiles, and wares)
operating as manager on duty
acting as a leader in safety through following procedures
training and providing day to day assistance to associates and providing feedback to the Store Manager
helping to manage overall flow and inventory of donated, new, and seasonal goods
merchandising store effectively through displays, timely features, and end caps
promoting exceptional internal and external customer service through effective communication
maintaining a responsive and respectful demeanor with others within the organization
demonstrating a regard for Goodwill assets
living Goodwill values
other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The Department Manager must have:
a High School degree (or its equivalent), but an Associate’s or higher is preferred
a minimum of 3 years of retail or other relevant experience
the ability to lift 40 pounds (and occasionally up to 80 pounds)
the ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time
ability to work in a retail and warehouse/backroom setting
In addition, the ideal candidate has:
familiarity with retail concepts, practices, and procedures
the ability to provide oversight to employees (supervisory experience is preferred)
the ability to effectively communicate with customers
the ability to set and achieve goals through prioritization and organization of tasks
a sense of urgency to address customer needs
high ethical practices and exceptional decision making skills
ability to follow instructions and work independently; the ability to follow all safety rules
a proficiency in computer skills including internet operations and Microsoft Word, Excel; and Outlook
