Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is seeking a Store Manager for our Freeport store. This position manages all aspects of the retail operation. Responsible for all duties related to financial results, retail and sales management, people management, risk management, administrative functions, and other duties related to effectively running a Goodwill retail location.
Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Retail & Sales Management
Understands and can work in any store function – sales, donations, textiles, and wares.
Implements and oversees proper procedures for all retail operations.
Merchandises store effectively.
Uses effective pricing strategies within organizational guidelines.
Ensures store is identifying items of value to be sold through the ecommerce process.
Keeps major seasonal opportunities such as Halloween and Christmas a priority all year.
Promotes exceptional internal and external customer service through effective communication.
Manages overall flow and inventory of donated goods, closeouts, new goods, and seasonal goods.
Conducts inventory according to organizational guidelines.
Financial Results
Achieves financial results through sales growth, expense management, and increased average sales.
People Management
Establishes and maintains an effective and respectful team in order to effectively achieve results.
Provides managerial oversight of retail staff including hiring (based on budgeted needs), training, coaching, praising, disciplining, and terminating following State and Federal laws and utilizing Human Resource guidelines.
Completes timely and thorough performance appraisals on retail associates and store leadership staff.
Ensures all staff are knowledgeable of all aspects of the operation including cross-training as needed.
Supports initiatives related to promoting an inclusive work environment where everyone belongs. Creates a positive and professional store culture.
Risk Management
Leads through keeping safety a priority including maintaining a safe and clean work environment, establishing a safety culture, and ensuring safety procedures are followed in all aspects of the business.
Understands and implements loss prevention practices.
Demonstrates regard for Goodwill’s assets including property, and equipment.
Administrative
Completes required reporting accurately and in a timely manner.
Completes and posts employee schedules on a timely basis working within budget and employee availability.
Processes payroll according to organizational guidelines.
Other
Maintains Kaizen principles.
Communicates and works with other departments within Goodwill (Warehouse, HR, Finance, E-Commerce, etc.)
Cooperates with other stores as appropriate for the overall business.
Supports Mission programs carried out in the store.
Oversees and maintains store cleanliness and maintenance including reporting and following up on all maintenance issues in a timely manner.
Works a schedule that balances with the needs of the store including nights and weekends.

Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:
A high school degree (or its equivalent) is required. Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
Minimum of five years retail experience.
Familiarity with retail concepts, practices, and procedures.
Ability to provide oversight to location and employees. Previous supervisory experience.
Ability to make fast and accurate decisions in all aspects of daily operations.
Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with customers (internal and external).
Ability to set objectives and goals; break down work into process steps; measure performance against goals; evaluate results.
Ability to effectively prioritize multiple issues/tasks.
Sense of urgency in addressing customer needs.
Demonstrates high ethical practices with exceptional decision-making abilities.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Ability to follow all safety rules.
Ability to travel to all locations within Goodwill’s territory on a regular schedule. Driver’s license and proof of auto insurance preferred.
Must be proficient in computer skills including internet operations, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
