Position Summary:
Directs and manages the day-to-day activities of the Planners and Inventory Control Personnel. Responsible for the Planning and Inventory Control functions. Coordinates activities of Planners with Customer Service, Production Team Leaders, Distribution, Strategic Sourcing, and Finance. Responsible for complying with all safety policies and practices. Responsible for creating ad-hoc reporting where necessary to respond to internal needs.
Education, Training & Experience:
A four-year degree in Business or its equivalent is required. Five (5) or more years’ experience and knowledge in Production/Demand Planning, Inventory Control Management and related functions is required to perform proficiently. Strong leadership skills with five (5) or more years successfully leading/managing a team. Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. CPIM or APICS certification preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
While usually in the seated position uses hands to work at computer and uses telephone, walks to different departments to talk with Team Leaders and other Departments. Can at will change position and sets up own routine of job functions.
Directs the daily activities of the Planning and Inventory Control Functions: Directs Planners in Metals and Plastics their day-to-day activities. Responsible for the quality of work within the Planning and Inventory Control Department. Responsible for planners to adhere to all safety policy and practices. Directs Inventory Control Personnel in the cycle counting program, requisitioning of raw materials, and customer-supplied inventory requirements.
Planning, Scheduling and Inventory Control: Responsible for Planning, Scheduling & Requisitioning of raw materials, WIP and Finished Goods. Plans and Schedules to meet customer needs. Plans using capacity restraints. Is responsible for closing Job Orders and analysis of work order variances and reconciliation. Responsible for the cycle counting program. Monitors Excess & Obsolete inventories. Works with Quality Dept on HFI inventory management. Works with Finance Dept on controlling variances.
Communication: Communicates with Customer Service/Sales to facilitate production meeting the customer’s needs. Communicates with Customer’s Planners when appropriate. Coordinates production activities with all Team Leaders in Operations team. Assigns Promise Dates, responds to all email requests. Participates with Customer Service/Sales on Customer visits when needed. Communicates with Finance regarding Job Order valuations, Excess & Obsolete inventories, and various metrics. Communicates with Industrial Engineering regarding BOMs and Routers. Responsible for responding to external auditing requests.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years previous experience in a Continuous Improvement position.
At least 5 years previous experience working in a manufacturing environment with Lean concepts.
Some previous experience working in or leading Kaizen events.
Green Belt or Black Belt certified.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Special Equipment and Other Requirements
Must have a strong working knowledge of ERP systems in Planning and Scheduling functions. Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) as well as Microsoft Outlook.
Relationships:
Reports to the Director, Demand Planning & Distribution. Must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to work collaboratively with other Departments. Directs Planners, Inventory Control, and coordinates scheduling activities with Customer Service/Sales and Production Team Leaders. Interacts with Distribution Dept to ensure production schedules are in line with customer shipment timeline requirements. Interacts with Industrial Engineering regarding Bills of Material and Routers. Coordinates with Quality Dept on HFI inventory management. Works with Finance Dept on daily/weekly/monthly variances and metrics. May have some contact with customers or vendors.
