Job Description
Under the direction of the Manager, direct, supervise and coordinate hourly personnel in a production or maintenance department in accordance with company policy and practices, operating schedules, and controls for one shift or area of the plant.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for quality, methods, production schedules and general department administration.
Plan and layout work.
Assign, instruct, direct and assist employees.
Monitor use of safety devices and equipment, supervise departmental housekeeping, and maintain a constant alert for hazardous conditions.
Participate in, and coordinate company programs having to do with employee communications, training and orientation, wage administration and job evaluation.
Interview applicants, appraise employee performance, and recommend wage adjustments.
Collaborate with production control, engineering, and manufacturing engineering to effect production scheduling and inventory, drawings, and process changes.
Anticipate production problems and devise and implement procedures to offset loss of man hours and schedule interruptions.
Contact vendors and suppliers concerning quality of material or services, selection of services and suppliers, and expedite some orders.
Investigate accidents and new equipment needs or procedures for possible cost saving improvements.
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports concerning the departments’ efficiency and productivity.
Additional duties as assigned.

The Individual
Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Minimum 4 years working in a manufacturing management
Strong leader who has direct experience of shop floor supervision
Proven track record for driving continuous improvement in a manufacturing business
Good communicator in both verbal and written formats
Must have knowledge of PC’s and Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software such as MFG/Pro
Machining practices CNC programming is a plus
 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 20 pounds.
Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities.  Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor
