The R&D Technologist supports the R&D development of new products for baked crackers and snacks along with fried extruded snacks. Working closely with senior and principal scientists, develops new products, participates in costs savings initiatives, and supports overall product development of baked and fried products.
Essential Duties and Requirements include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Support development of product line extensions and new varieties
Formula development including but not limited to weighing ingredients, preparing samples, shipping samples, and active participation in setup and tasting of product formulations
Data management with this role includes formula calculations, gathering and documenting data, attention to detail for experimental design, accurate recording of results in formula development system
Product testing including setup of shelf-life tests, ingredient review, and prototype review
Support team to build sales stories and product attributes which may include: pricing, target customer, customer need fulfilled, process, prototype, packaging, etc.
Support plant trials and new product start-ups, may require working off shifts and extended hours
On-site support of project scale-up including product, process, and packaging
Gather key R&D information for raw material, packaging, finished product and processing specifications. Including but not limited to powder flow testing, breakage, and water activity.
R&D Support of experiments, plant trials, production testing, and inventory

Required Background
Education
Bachelors Degree in Food Science or Food Engineering required
Comparable bachelors of science degree with experience will be considered
Experience
One to three years of experience in food development, quality, or related area.
Travel
Up to 20% travel required
