Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden – Employer Success Story
The Workforce Connection works with youth and business partners and connects individuals to opportunities to expose youth to careers and fill business needs. The elevate Youth program recently connected a youth participant, Jessica, to a great opportunity. Alexander Mills, Executive Director of Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden shared her delight with us.
Success Story: Family Counseling Services (FCS)
Family Counseling Services (FCS) was in need of an additional receptionist for the afternoon and evening hours and The Workforce Connection was able to assist, while providing valuable training to an individual.
Participant Success Story: Sandrine
Sandrine is enrolled in The Workforce Connection Adult program and needed a refresher on her interview skills. Her Career Planner, Alex, recommended that she attend #Ready, a one-day, four hour employment readiness workshop offered by The Workforce Connection. The program provides a refresher on soft skills, how to talk to an employer, and essential customer service skills.
Employer Success Story: Dairy Farmers of America (Belvidere)
We at DFA reached out to The Workforce Connection team so that we could offer our employees training that they would not have had the opportunity without assistance.

Tiara is a living example of how employers and individuals can support each other, and The Workforce Connection is here to assist them both. Referring to The Workforce Connection, Tiara says “there are people who work hard on your behalf to help you achieve your goals. Never give up, no matter what!”
Employer Success Story: Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful
This past fall, Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful partnered with The Workforce Connection’s Elevate Youth Program for a paid Work Experience opportunity for an Office Assistant position. They were in great need of someone to answer the phones in order for them to utilize their time more efficiently and strategically. They also needed someone to help with data entry with the utmost respect with accuracy and to assist with general office duties.
Participant Success Story: Savhanna
Savhanna victoriously attended and completed welding training at First Institute and received her AWS Welding certification. She is currently working full-time at Franklin Wire in Belvidere as a welder and is happy to have a great job and co-workers. Advice that Savhanna has for other youth is, “enroll into Elevate because it’s changed my life for the better. It is a great opportunity, the staff is so supportive. The only thing that is stopping you is you!”
Participant Success Story: Tomas
Tomas was able to enroll and work with his Career Planner to attend CDL training at no cost to him. He completed his training through 160 Driving Academy and passed his CDL test to obtain his CDL license. After earning his license, Tomas was hired full time at Rail Transport in Rockford as a driver.
Success Story: Rorie
Rorie came to The Workforce Connection looking for a truck-driving job and a local route, which can be tough to find! But The Workforce Connection had the right employer looking for staff. Rorie interviewed and it turned out to be a perfect fit for both parties. Rorie stated that “This program is great and filled with amazing people! With this program, finding employment is a breeze!”
